A BECAS STORY

In many Central American countries, going to college is only a dream. For many students, the obligations of working to help their families make ends meet keep them from having the time available to attend a university. This does not take into account the costs of tuition that are so out of touch for someone who is only making a few dollars a day.

Over the last few years, the Turning Point Church has been partnering with the church in San Salvador to provide scholarships for students in the church so that they can attend college and be one step closer to breaking the cycle of poverty. This program is called the Becas Program, because “becas” means “scholarship” in Spanish.

Each scholarship recipient must be a member in good standing, keep excellent grades, serve in a ministry of the church each Sunday and turn in monthly tuition receipts. In turn, they receive financial support for tuition and accountability for their studies and spiritual lives. The results have been so encouraging!

The hope and gratitude that this brings to these families is indescribable. Check out these videos below to hear the gratitude and see the faces of the students who have been impacted by this program.

The cost of attending a university in El Salvador varies, but is generally around $150 per month.

If you are interested in donating to the Becas Program, you can make a one time donation using the donation button below. However, it is the most helpful for the administrators of the program if our donors make a one year commitment, because that helps us to budget the correct number of students that we can help.
